[ They've been conversing through letters. He lets Sweden mail them, sealing it first with his own personal stamp. It gets the message across: Sweden is allowed to do the work, but he has no right to Norway's business. So he doesn't bother telling him where he's going, only that he'll be gone for the day.

He's agreed to go to Denmark, only if they meet at Elves' Hill in Stevns. It is a modest place of great importance, to the both of them. Ibsen has found inspiration from Andersen, after all.

Denmark isn't anywhere he can find yet, so he lies down at the very top of the hill (hardly impressive) and waits. He hasn't brought anything, which means he expects Denmark to provide. ]

( for all that denmark is lax, easy going about most things, he's rarely late. it's a point of pride! he's a leader, and has a lot of determination; he'll always be on time and lead the way! but some things aren't quite that straightforward.

it's not like he's not allowed to do what he likes. and his bosses are generally okay with him mailing letters off to sweden's house, but they're far more cautious than denmark sees the sense in. it's not like nor sneaking over will cause an incident! it's all prudence and 'but, the war…' he's really sick of that, you know?

so he makes excuses and tries to be subtle and gets caught trying to be subtle and has to make more excuses and then gets impatient and just up and leaves the manor, leaving him well over an hour late. he wonders where norway could be — there's a second almost like worry, where he doesn't know where he is and if he's even made it, and then denmark thinks, well, he'll be at the highest spot, and trudges up the hill.

it's the first in-person meeting in quite a few years. it should be dramatic and ceremonial and emotional, probably. instead, denmark puffs his way up at full speed, and has to stop to catch his breath a little when he spots nor in the grass. )

H… hey! Nor! Long time no see!

[ Norway has dozed off by the time Denmark makes it up the hill. It's the loud, familiar voice that always used to wake him up, and he almost thinks to react with a go make me coffee, you. Instead, he opens his eyes and doesn't find the manor around him, just the sky. It's better like this.

He lifts himself up to find Denmark, hardly making for any dramatics as he yawns. ]

You're late. [ He says, though he doesn't know how late. He assumes. ]

Couldn't figure out how to get up the hill?

I made it up fine! ( denmark objects, with a break to suck in a breath, and then he stands up straight and tall, shoulders back, and there's a certain posed element to it. it's their first and overdue reunion! he's thinking of courts and diplomacy, but this really isn't much like that, in retrospect, so he rubs at the back of his neck and grins like a loon. )

I was late because I had to be really secretive. It's like we're having a covert affair! ( he says excitedly, going over and dropping down onto the grass besides nor. )

[ Norway is looking more at the view behind Denmark than his pose. It would be a lot better if they could get higher up. He'll have to insist their next meeting is at his own house.

But Denmark's talking, so he starts to listen in. ]

They don't want you makin' a mess of things. Sweden ain't happy about it either. So I sign your name real big on the envelopes. [ There is an obvious satisfaction in the way he says it. Sweden's against him deciding on his own foreign relations, so why not do it anyway?

He turns his head and gets a good look at Denmark finally. There's something comforting in it. ]
How're the kids?

Lately, Faeroes has been turnin' into a real lady, ( denmark says proudly, starting with his favourite. ) Every since she got those parliament seats, she's growin' up into a proper lady. I'm thinkin' Ice should take her example, but he's being really rebellious lately. "I want independence, I don't gotta listen to you," but I think he's just having a wild stage, like we had when we were kids. ( of course, denmark's wild stage led him to conquering france and england, but he can't say he wouldn't be a little proud of iceland somehow pulled that one out. ) Green and Indies are okay too.

( he shifts a bit closer to nor, probably staining his trousers from the grass as he does. ) How mad's Sweden? ( he asks cheerfully. )

Sounds like he's following my example. [ Focusing on Iceland, of course. ] You hafta listen to him or he'll run off. [ Not necessarily a bad thing, but Ice needs to learn how to take care of himself first.

He doesn't move away from Denmark, in any case. It's not important right now. ]
He's been gettin' that vein right in the middle of his forehead. Trying to see if it can burst.

Hmm! ( is all denmark says about iceland, probably going for a thoughtful sound but still sounding too enthusiastic. ice had better not run off; that'd be no good, he's still just a little kid who needs his brother to take care of him. this home rule stuff should be plenty —

— anyway, sweden is a more interesting subject. denmark flops back onto the grass, stretching out his legs until they ache, then relaxing them. )
Shouldn't be hard, just mention Russian expansion and German unification. Even he's gotta have a headache about that.

( when the possibility had first come up, of course rory had wanted to go to medical school to become a doctor. it was not because of amy's raggedy doctor, it was definitely not about amy in the least. being a doctor is a respectable job; that's all. his dad had been pleased.

a few pamphlets later, rory had learned the difference between doctors and nurses and decided he'd rather learn how to take care of people instead. his dad was somewhat less pleased by this, amy seemed benignly apathetic (what's the use of trying to impress someone who doesn't even notice?), and rory had gone through nursing school, gotten good marks, a hospital job, amy's eventual notice, another hospital job in london, and now was a proud and dedicated medical health professional to a vampire.

sometimes rory liked to try and figure out exactly when his life went pear shaped.

he supposes it's universal, really; rummaging through a small pile of medication: glass bottles, indistinct labels, a few without markers at all. not the pear-shaped part, or the vampire part; those are not universal, thanks. but the fact that if you're a nurse, and someone you know gets the flu, everyone assumes you're going to, well, nurse them back to health, just as a matter of course. like people asking doctors to diagnose them at dinner parties. the weird part is probably that he hadn't even stopped to consider before agreeing to keep caroline company.

two likely looking bottles chosen, he heads back over to the sofa. )

I've found two sorts of antibiotics, but I have no idea if they'll even work with your biology.
